How we design your garden

Designing your garden is very much a collaborative process. Working with you, we will design a garden which looks beautiful, suits your style and home and also meets the practical needs of your family and lifestyle.

Creating your new garden naturally falls into the following phases. We will guide you through these to ensure that the process is as stress free as possible.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Phase 01

note book for initial consultation

INITIAL CONSULTATION

The initial consultation is a chance for us to take a look at your outdoor space and discuss your garden design ideas, important practical considerations and your preferred style - whether you would like a contemporary, city garden or maybe more traditional garden landscaping. Would you like to include a patio, a garden pond or a pergola? Maybe you would like an outdoor kitchen or a water feature? And what style of planting would you most like? We will chat over all of this and more and look at what is possible. After this initial meeting we will be able to send you a fee proposal for designing your new garden.

Phase 02

design of a garden

The design of your new garden begins with a topographical survey of the space, to establish the existing layout, boundaries and ground levels. Keeping in mind the agreed brief, we will begin designing your new garden layout and will meet with you again to discuss our proposed plans, mood boards and a suggested choice of materials. Once you are completely happy, we will finalise the plans and specify all finishes and ground levels in the garden.

MASTERPLAN DESIGN

Phase 03

Technical drawings and planning permissions

Once we have agreed the Masterplan, we will create technical construction drawings for features such as pergolas, fire pits and water features as well as plans for garden lighting. We are happy to apply for planning permissions on your behalf, for example, if this is required because you live in a conservation area.

Phase 04

How to find a good landscape contractor? We understand that this can be a little daunting. However, when all plans are agreed, we will introduce you to talented and reputable garden landscapers, who can be trusted to create your new garden according to our detailed design. We handle the tendering process and once you have selected your preferred contractor, we can visit during the garden build to monitor that the garden is being constructed correctly.

Planting your garden

We work with you to design a planting scheme which you will love and which is suited to the the light and soil conditions in your garden. We personally select plants from our network of local growers and nurseries, who can be relied up to provide good quality specimens. We oversee the planting of your garden and can also prepare an easy to understand Garden Maintenance Guide to help you to care for your new garden. Alternatively we can introduce you to trusted local maintenance gardeners, who can look after the garden for you.

Contemporary garden

North London

Our clients in Hampstead Garden Suburb wanted a stylish contemporary garden for family entertaining. Cool, grey granite paving is used throughout to create dining and seating spaces which are contrasted with a wide iroko decking platform. The garden is planted with soft purple, blue and white flowers, evergreen trees and lush, exotic planting which will give interest all year round.
